Inside Llewyn Davis – Two Clips + Stills — A pair of new clips – accompanied by almost ten images – showcase the central performance of Inside Llewyn Davis, while also giving an aural taste of the delicious music-buffet in the latest from straight-up geniuses Joel and Ethan Coen.

That central performance is from Oscar Isaac, playing the titular Llewyn Davis, a folk musician making the rounds in Greenwich Village in 1961.  The film takes place over a single winter week in the life of the genuinely talented but misanthropic artist as he stumbles through his own life, feebly coping with the suicide of his longtime professional and artistic partner.

Isaac is a hell of a performer, and Inside Llewyn Davis is his first true showcase as an actor.  You’ll recognize him from supporting roles in DriveRobin Hood, and The Bourne Legacy (He was reportedly Tony Gilroy’s top choice to play action hero Aaron Cross, a role given to more recognizable star Jeremy Renner).  Just yesterday we found out that Isaac has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award on account of Inside Llewyn Davis.  Rest assured, he’ll be the subject of a whole lot of awards season hoopla over the months to come.  Deservedly so.

Unsurprisingly, pairing Isaac with arguably the best American directors out there resulted in a great character.  These two clips sell Isaac’s musical ability and crack open the door to Davis’s complexity.  The first one features the likes ofAlex Karpovsky of GirlsAmerican Horror Story‘s Robin Bartlett, and Ethan Phillips, who played Neelix on Star Trek: Voyager.  The second, then, boasts John Goodman and Garrett Hedlund, though you’ll hear a peep from neither.

Inside Llewyn Davis marks the latest collaboration between the Brothers Coen and executive music producer T-Bone Burnett. From the sound of it, this might just surpass O Brother, Where Art Thou? as the must-own Coen-Burnett soundtrack.

These clips also give a sense of how the directorial duo grooved with cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel, who stepped in because their usual director of photography, Roger Deakins, was busy making Skyfall look slicker than it had any right to.

In addition to Isaac and the actors you peeped in the clips, Inside Llewyn Davis also stars Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Adam Driver, Max Casella, and Stark Sands.

The film opens in limited release on December 6th and expands on December 20th.
